Chapter 17 Officers and Employees

ARTICLE I

Terms of Office [Adopted 2-21-1985 as L. L. No. 4-1985]

 

17-1  Findings

 

It is in the best interest of the citizens of the Village of Wilson that the terms of its elected officers be staggered so as to provide continuous, informed and uninterrupted leadership for the village.

 

17-2  Term of Mayor for 1986

 

The term for the office of Mayor of the Village of Wilson shall be three (3) years for the term commencing April 1, 1986.

A.  The term for the office of one (1) of the Trustees of the Village of Wilson shall be two (2) years for the term commencing April 1, 1986, and the term for the office of one (1) of the Trustees shall be four (4) years for the term commencing April 1, 1986.

 

B.  For the purpose of determining the candidate for Trustee who shall fill the four year term for the term commencing April 1, 1986, and the candidate for Trustee who shall fill the two year term for the term commencing April 1, 1986, pursuant to Subsection A above, the candidate for Village Trustee who shall receive the highest total of votes in the village election held in March 1986 shall be elected to a term of four (4) official years, and the candidate for Village Trustee who shall receive the next highest total of votes in the village election held in March 1986 shall be elected to a term of two (2) official years.

 

17-4  Succeeding Terms

 

All succeeding terms for the offices of Mayor and Trustees shall be for four (4) years commencing with the expiration of their respective terms following the election held in the year 1986.
